Bush to Bowl Recipe: Anti-Inflammatory Turmeric and Kakadu Plum Golden Paste for People and Pups
Share
Looking for a natural way to support your dog's joints, digestion, and immune system? Our Golden Paste with an Aussie twist combines turmeric, ginger, coconut oil, and Kakadu Plum Powder - a powerhouse of anti-inflammatory and antioxidant compounds that can benefit dogs (and people) of all ages.
Why We Chose These Ingredients
· Turmeric (Curcuma longa) – Contains curcumin, a potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant that supports joint health, liver detoxification, and digestion (Hewlings & Kalman, 2017).
· Kakadu Plum (Terminalia ferdinandiana) – One of the richest sources of vitamin C globally, supporting immune function and reducing oxidative stress (Konczak et al., 2014).
· Fresh Ginger (Zingiber officinale) – Supports digestion, gut health, and inflammation. Contains gingerol, a potent bioactive compound (Mohd Yusof et al., 2022).
· Coconut or MCT Oil – Helps turmeric absorption while providing MCTs for brain and skin health (Bourre, 2006). For more information about how MCTs can nourish the brain, check out our blog on MCTs.
· Black Pepper (Piperine) – Can enhance turmeric absorption by up to 2,000%, but should be used cautiously in dogs (Shoba et al., 1998).
Ingredients
½ cup water
2 tbsp turmeric powder
1 tsp freshly grated ginger (best option for maximum benefits!)
1 tbsp coconut oil or MCT oil
½ tsp Kakadu Plum Powder (add after cooling as heat destroys vitamin C)
A tiny pinch (⅛ tsp) of black pepper (if your dog tolerates it!)
Method
1️ Heat water in a saucepan and stir in turmeric and ginger.
2️ Cook on low heat, stirring until a thick paste forms.
3️ Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly.
4️ Mix in coconut oil, Kakadu Plum Powder, and black pepper (if using).
Black Pepper Notes for Dogs
Helps turmeric absorption but should be used sparingly.
Avoid if your dog has sensitive digestion, ulcers, or GI issues (coconut oil alone helps absorption).
How Golden Paste Supports Your Dog's Health
Reduces inflammation – great for joints, skin, and gut health
Supports liver detoxification – helps remove toxins and reduces oxidative stress
Boosts digestion and gut health – improves nutrient absorption and soothes digestion
Rich in antioxidants – thanks to Australian Kakadu Plum!
